INFORMAL•NORTH AMERICAN noun
an accomplice of a hawker, gambler, or swindler who acts as an enthusiastic customer to entice or encourage others.
She begs to be fed — loudly and persistently — and being part Siamese she has some serious vocal cords. She keeps this up until I comply — or until she tires of yowling and exhaling fishy cat-breath into my face from the back of my chair — and then after taking only a bite or two she blithely abandons her bowl and allows the other two cats (Jason’s, not mine) to wolf down the rest.
The whole cycle repeats itself, usually, less than an hour later, so apparently they have her trained to beg for them — and I have to give them (Chico and Princessa) credit for being accomplished Con-Cats. They clearly have talents, and Thiam is obviously a push-over since she does all of the work for very little benefit.
Have I set a bad example? <Sighs>
