Originally this verse had a long, rambling introduction and back-story, trying to explain just why I wrote it (other than for publication in our monthly SCA Newsletter “The Equinox”). I’m sure it was helpful, in that respect, and moderately illuminating. 😉
But in the end I just decided to let the poem stand alone. LOL
I dreamt of love that timeless would endure
Through grief and pain, and hold the world at bay
When tempests threatened, limitless and sure,
And even after death would not give way.
I dreamt of trust, compassion, sympathy,
And secrets shared that ne’er would be betrayed;
Of honesty and steadfast loyalty,
And oaths abiding, not to be unmade.
I dreamt of friendship, fathomless and true,
That time would never shatter; to transcend
The trials of the world, enduring through
The toilsome years, abiding to the end.
I dreamt, and held my dreams within my heart,
As lovers failed, and oaths did not hold true,
And friendships faltered, and, for my own part,
Found none of these, but still am hoping to.
