Penny Rug

My bathroom floor on the kitchen level is tiled, and the tile is really cool. I like it a lot. On the other hand, I don’t always feel overly inclined to wear shoes, and in the winter tile can be COLD on bare feet. Trust me on this!

This is especially true if you tend — as I do for reasons of fiscal economy — to wait for late December to turn on the heat, and even then to leave your thermostat set at around 60-degrees. Of course, I have a “heat exchange” system, so when the heat’s on there’s rarely hot water in the kitchen, or in the bathroom I previously mentioned, but it’s worth the trade-off….mostly.

In any case, I put a couple of area rugs in the bathroon, and the 3’x5′ in front of the sink is fine. It’s an oriental print that’s heavy enough to stay in place, but the rug I had in front of the toilet wasn’t. It was attractive, but lightweight enough that it was constantly moving around and rolling up, so I decided I wanted to get a 2’x3′ rug for that area that maybe sort of matched the other rug.

Okay, so I knew THAT wasn’t going to happen. I mean, matching is rarely, if ever, possible, but I figured I ought to be able to get a little oriental print rug in mostly black and tan that would be reasonably close. In any case, I went on several web sites, and found a number of passable options, all in the $25-$35 dollar range. Hey! Not being a “rug snob”, I wasn’t looking for a more expensive rug to go in front of a toilet!

Then I checked Amazon.com, and found another alternative. It was the right size, and it was roughly the right combination of colors. It wasn’t “impressive”, and didn’t really look as good as the rugs I’d seen on Wayfair.com or other sites, but then I checked the price. OMG!!

You just don’t expect to see an area rug priced at $.01. That’s right. 1-Cent. The shipping and handling were around $7, but even so….really??? There was no way I could pass that up. I mean, if nothing else I could get on line and boast about getting an area rug for a penny!!

So I got my penny rug, and it fit perfectly where I intended to place it, and while it wasn’t a “match” for the other rug it was close enough for government work. It didn’t look expensive (see photo), but “in for a penny, in for a….rug”, right?
