The verse below was written for publication in our monthly SCA newsletter “The Equinox” for The Shire of Sol Haven in the Kingdom of Meridies. I’ve written rather a lot of poetry with that as my motivation, because I’m the Chronicler and hate to publish an issue with blank pages in it. 😉
Though, of course, not all are impressive, some turn out rather well — or at least manage to convey an image, or an emotion, or a point of view. I’ll leave it up to my followers whether this one does — or not. 😉
We dream of worlds that velvet wear, where skirts of linen flow;
Where sleeves of satin we may dare, and woolen vestments sew.
We dream of worlds where honor dwells, and truth may bravely ride;
Where we may wake to singing bells, and forth to battle stride.
We dream of worlds we do not know, where Kings stand sure and tall;
Where Queens with noble beauty glow when shades of darkness fall.
We dream of worlds where oaths are true, and fealty ne’er shall fail,
Where Knights like shining beacons ride, all in their coats of maille.
We dream of worlds where candlelight and gentle music dwell,
Where we may revel through the night, with epic tales to tell.
We dream of worlds where evil flees, from deftly wielded blade,
Where banners fly, and pageantry and grace can never fade.
We dream of worlds of wonderment, where visions boldly ride,
And in our dreams we are content, and cannot be denied.
