“Come Walk With Me”

June 27, 2016 by phicks2012

ctree2I saw a post the other day on social media asking what attracted us to the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism), and was inspired to quickly jot down a little verse on the back of an envelope while shopping later at Kroger. Great poetry it’s not, but for a quickie it isn’t too bad, and it does express some of what drew me to this hobby I’ve now embraced for nearly 30 years — WOW! 30 Years? That’s marginally SCARY!

In any case, here it is below, typed from my Kroger notes and FAR easier to read — especially considering that the original was scribbled alongside and around my grocery list. 😉

Come Walk With Me

Come walk with me along an elder road
Where silken banners hang in bright array,
And tall pavilions grace the King’s abode
Where we take refuge from a latter day.

Come take my hand, and let the minstrels play
While to the beat of drums the warriors stride
In polished helms, and solemn oaths obey,
And noble heroes are beatified.

Come follow me, let honor be our guide
Along the path that chivalry decrees,
Where truth and fealty cannot be denied,
And where our yearning hearts can be appeased.

Come take the path where glory can be seized,
Where we may stride in grace and chivalry.
When lacking fantasy we stand displeased,
But can be Kings if you will walk with me.

Love the phrase, “refuge from a latter day.”
