I happen to live in a rather unique house, and people are constantly telling me that they just cannot fathom why one of the movie or TV production companies in the area haven’t yet used it for a location. I happen to agree with them.
To be honest, it has been scouted in the past for a Nazi Vampire flick, and for both “Vampire Diaries” and “Devious Maids”, and a few weeks ago I got a visit from a location scout for “The Originals”, but it has, alas, never yet been selected, and I continue to wonder why not.
I would not expect to be hired as an extra, nor would I be an annoying gawker, since I have never actually been a rabid fan of any of the shows mentioned. I would not really be inclined to hang around ogling the actors, and in fact, I’d be much more likely to be fascinated by the efforts of the set decorators, if the truth be known, so I don’t think the problem is ME — and my housemates think that it would be cool to have the place used as a filming location, so I don’t think it’s THEM.
The house is isolated enough to limit neighborhood on-lookers, and it has ample space for parking vehicles and trailers. It is, as I stated previously, unique in appearance, and it has large rooms such that there is more space for maneuvering cameras and equipment. I would not object to having rooms repainted or redecorated as long and the results were pleasing, so I don’t think it’s the HOUSE or its LOCATION.
so — what’s the down side? Well, I’m told that often “they” — whoever “they” might be — are looking for very specific settings, and that there’s no real way of knowing when, or whether or not, they’ll select a scouted location. They might already have a particular sort of place in mind, or they might be inspired by a location to create a story line that suits it.
Guess I can only wait and see whether or not The Castle inspires any of them, huh?
