It occurred to me the other day that if we had enough love and positive emotion in our lives there would be precious little room left for negative emotion. Unfortunately, most of us simply don’t have enough love in our lives to crowd out the anger and the frustration, and the hostility. People hurt one another, and hold grudges — and sometimes with very good reason. But I started thinking that maybe we probably need to invite more positive emotion into our lives so that we’d have less room left for the negative —and this verse is the result. I hope you enjoy it.
“Chambers of the Heart”
Each heart has chambers aching to be filled.
They echo, empty, in their aspect stark,
With windows shuttered and with embers chilled
Awaiting candles lit to chase the dark.
Upon each hearth a fire must be lit,
And tables set to greet the wanted guest;
The beds turned down good folk to benefit,
That welcome might there be made manifest.
Into the rooms we call with our desire
Fast friends to share the freshly broken bread,
And families to gather round the fire,
And lovers who desire to share a bed.
And if with these we fill the Chambers there
Assuring they attain a brimming state,
We will have love alone therein to share,
And will not have a corner left for hate.
