Some days are just special — or at least especially FULL. This past Monday I started out the morning and the week by having the ferrier out to trim my horses, and then had to sally forth to buy groceries and other useful items. By the time I managed lunch (Forget Breakfast) it was mid afternoon, and I still had to write my daily quota for http://www.nanowrimo.org/ and post a new BLOG https://phicksblog.wordpress.com/2012/11/05/comic-relief/; then finish up and print and collate a newsletter.
But the day started out with hanging around in the pasture while my babies got their manicures. Having no one to ride with these days I rarely do it anymore, but I used to ride competitively, and always enjoyed it. Unfortunately, my elderly mare, Sonnet, now drops weight off at the bat of an eye — some of us humans should be able to manage that so easily — and I’m struggling to fatten the old girl back up before the weather gets much colder. Though she has a very healthy appetite, it’s an uphill battle. It’s just hard to put weight on old horses, but at least she does seem to be gaining, and the boys, Thor and KC, appear to be well-insulated — and given another month at the rate they’re going they could probably tolerate Siberia.
By the way, does anyone other than me think that horses smell great, or am I an aberation? Just checking!
